About The Mistral Trio

The Mistral Trio is an ensemble of three friends--Ann, Joanna, and Elisabeth--who've been conversing through music for over 12 years.  During that time, they've played countless weddings, cocktail hours, receptions, benefit concerts, and full-length recitals throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond.  Often they perform for events at private homes and estates.  Click here for some of the public venues where they've played.

Like music played by any friends who have some history together, the Mistral Trio's sound is confident, intimate, and nuanced. Ann, Joanna, and Elisabeth work so well together partly because of their individual training--they studied music at world-renowned Oberlin, Eastman, and the University of Michigan--and partly because they've had so many years exploring and and refining the ways that oboe, clarinet, and bassoon can play as one.  Their repertoire includes more than 150 selections of primarily classical music, plus other styles.  If you don't see what you want on the list, custom arrangements are also available.

A mistral is a strong northerly wind that blows in southern France.  Since the trio is a woodwind ensemble, with a great deal of French music in its repertoire, it seemed a fitting name for us.  Other interesting details about the trio:  Oboist Ann is a music librarian who helps track down music for the group.  Elisabeth sells hand-crafted bassoon reeds to students and professionals across the country; she's also a music therapist.  Joanna enjoys working with children--her own three and others--and is married to a tuba player.

And why hire the Mistral Trio?  Many music-lovers delight in discovering the warmth, liveliness, and versatility of music performed by woodwind trio.  Woodwinds project sound well, which is important for outdoor events; they can also play subdued background music.  The trio may be less expensive to hire than a brass quintet or string quintet, yet has more musical range than a duo.  Finally, Ann, Joanna, and Elisabeth are professional, accommodating--don't hesitate to call about last-minute bookings--and would love to share their music with you.
